Disconnecting a Shopify API Connection to the Google Merchant Center Feed

Remove Content API connection within Google Merchant Center for a Shopify Store

Shopify and similar e-commerce platforms provide simple apps to link online stores with Google Shopping. However, these apps usually only transfer data without enabling advanced data optimization or segmentation. For sustained success, merchants aiming to expand their businesses typically require more robust features like product optimization, scalability, and comprehensive support, which these basic apps often lack.

If you've switched from Shopify's "Google & YouTube" app to a data feed management solution - FeedOps - remember to disconnect your Google Merchant Center account from within Shopify. Failing to do so could result in FeedOps' optimized product feeds being occasionally replaced with unoptimized data from Shopify's "Google & YouTube" app.

Disconnect your Shopify API connection to the Google Merchant Center by following these steps:

  1. Log in to the Shopify admin
  2. Navigate to “Sales Channels” on the left sidebar and then click on the “Google & YouTube” channelShopify - Google Sale Channel App
If you can't find the "Google & YouTube" sale channel app in the left sidebar, click on the "Sales channels" section and search for the "Google & YouTube" app within the popup.
  3. Click on the Settings tabShopify - Google Settings Tab - Channel App
  4. In the Your Google Merchant Center account section, click the Disconnect button to deactivate the Shopify API that feeds to the Google Merchant Center.Shopify - Google Settings Tab - Channel App - 2

The last step is to remove the "Content API" from the Google Merchant Center.

NOTE - Before removing the "Content API", you need to make sure that FeedOps's "Shopping Feed" is present within your Google Merchant Center.

  1. Log into your Google Merchant Center account.
  2. Navigate to the "Feeds" section within the left sidebarGMC - Left Side Bar - Shopify API
